Get It In, 2013!

It's the last day in the year, and the bay area proves it has some bosses to close the year out. I guess the video of Endo is a few months old, but I never saw it until now. Mesta, Dom, and Endo all doing what they do best. If you leave your new years resolution in the comments, you might win a 40oz of country club...

Can't get more Solid than this!

Solid x DPL from Tristan Adams on Vimeo.

Believe it or not, there is still more Solid bikes videography to showcase, which is pretty awesome since it features none other than Tristan Adams. This basic ass park looks awesome based on the lines these dudes are executing. Can't wait to shred some east bay parks with the biker boys tomorrow!

I got 3 for $5 on it!

Dark Mark shows us why we need to visit him, as well as Jim and Lisa out in Colorado. Weed is legal, parks are abundant, and they pay you for riding your bike. I think Coors Light might be the only evidence proving that Colorado isn't heaven on earth.

Solid Saturday

How did Solid Bikes completely dominate this week in web videos? Probably because they didn't drop their entire team, which seems to be the hottest trend in BMX right now. In fact, the Solid army only seems to get stronger, and straight out the gate, OG Gerald and young buck Tanner close out the year with some wild edits to be proud of.

4 Pegs and a Fun Tunnel

The streets just hopped the fence to you're neighborhood skatepark, and already the scooter kids are smoking blunts and shoulder tapping for some High Gravity. I'm glad everything worked out in the end for this splendid Lino Gonzalez approved edit, especially since I heard Mini-Daddy's agent and publicist were a nightmare to work with. I'm loving the Vern edits, the red-Iphone was a good investment for this bunch.

Had a fun time getting of the island of Santa Cruz last weekend and shredding with the greater Bay brethren. And of course I got to see the Big Poppa bear himself, Mr. Chris(1+well). It is his birthday today, and he will be having a jam over the weekend at the Asylum. I'm pretty sure it's 18+, so it will probably get rowdy. Just a little.

In Taj We Trust

Nobody is perfect, and that's okay. I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Taj, putting into perspective one of the rawest and raddest bike riders to pedal a BMX. Sometimes we all need a reminder to plot our own course and keep things pure. If we didn't listen to our gut, we'd probably shit our pants... a lot. And with that, check this link from a purely BMX'd out session I had with Jackson and Guy. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all the kooks I've met and had the privilege to shred with. Including this guy below, who doesn't even celebrate Thanksgiving.

And this was too rad not to post. The uprail at 1:11, an uprail to can-can x-up, and the hard 3 over the rail were among some of my favorites. I think the "B" in BMX for this guy stands for Bondage.

Jorge Jam

What a shitty situation. Despite how cliquey BMX can be, through and through, we come together to help our fellow shredders. Whether it's a hospital bill for yourself, your dog, or rounding up a posse to find a stolen bike, brotherhood is an integral part of the game which makes BMX all the more awesome. I don't think I've met the victim, but this sounds like a great event to participate in. I'm just gonna hope I don't have any couches to deliver on Sunday. Otherwise, skip church and get yourself to Lake Cunningham for a scooter free Sabbath, some eats, and a great cause. Aside from Crazy Chris' events, the jam season this summer has been minimal, so get it in before the sun starts ducking out of work early.

Jibs N Salsa 2

Three things should become obvious while watching the second installment of Jibs N Salsa. First, Santa Cruz is a great place to jib around. Secondly, Focho and Country Clubbin' make beautiful music together. And finally, Los Perricos reigns supreme as the official burrito and green salsa of Country Clubbin' dot blogspot dot muthafuckin com. I'd recommend riding first before you get the burrito eating craving, as the burrito will post-pone your session until the next day. Enjoy!

Double Feature?

This is definitely a first for Country Clubbin'. We've got a double feature on our hands. The first video is a top secret vid I made as the introductory CC edit after I bought Beerman's camera. I held off on posting it because my clips were in Brokeless 3, which hadn't come out yet, and the rest went to Another Beer in El Rancho. I sent it out so I could get feedback, but now I think it's time to share this short but sweet teaser of what the Country Clubbin' international has to offer.

Donuts from Andy Maguire on Vimeo.

Next, we have a remix of Silent Mike clips that were featured in The Hunt For Shred October 2, Where's the Beach Bro v2, and a few never before seen gems. Hopefully this will encourage Mike to ride more with the boys! Or maybe I'm the goth who rides by himself all the time? Who knows. Recognize the skill performed by this man!

Well boys, that's our first double feature. Working on a few different projects at the moment, so put your thinking caps on and come film some stuff. Summer is in full swing, so let the party begin!

Spot On!

With the aid of some lil Mikey ledge lube, here are some pics of some spots that are now pretty rad because they have been stung by the bee. More to come. As for SC high, I thought the place was a goner. But looks like the construction might be an actual improvement, as the caution tape obstacle course proved to be a quite a good session.
And while we're on spots, the Fun Spot in Santa Cruz needs some help. I've scheduled a meeting with parks supervisor Jim Gibbons, to discuss repairs, grievances, and improvements for the park. We are meeting Thursday at noon at the Fun Spot, so come support if you can make it. My main concern is that the repairs being done to the park are mere cosmetics, while the underlying problems are, well, underlying; the inner structures are melted, which is making it easier for holes to form in the facing. Other ideas and input are more than welcome. Overall, adding more spots to Santa Cruz is awesome!

Below are two excerpts from Che Holts' 2003 debut, "Vision," which can still be viewed on VHS in its entirety at my house. Hauling Otis

If Jackson Allen was a WWII fighter plane, he'd be the JackAl (or maybe JacKill). Transitioning from FBM flow rider to full blown Youtube pro, Jackson hauls ass, jumps more fences than an episode of Cops, and gets rad to a song that is thankfully not the Black Keys. He even gets a tug boat to go fast! High fives will be in order, next time I see you bossman! Expertly paired with a LeastMost article with photos by Nate Delp.  If you need more tabletops, I suggest you pick an IKEA catalog.

Also, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Thomas Re out in Santa Rosa, who's turning 30 today.  Thomas is an OG Santa Rosa shredder who was definitely one of the first people I remember really catching me off guard as to how good of a rider you could be.  Cheers boys,  the weekend is upon us!

Box Office Smash

Custom Riders x Stronghold Mixtape from jordan_reid on Vimeo.

This boxing match may not be as exciting as Mayweather vs. Guerrero, but our pen-pals from Nottingham provide an excellent example of roasting on one of the most classic and controversial obstacles in BMX history. Why did people hate on the box jump in the early 2000's? Birdie has to fly at some point, right? I guess this doesn't matter, because freestyle is about freedom. Speaking of Limey-connections, in about a month ABC will be kicking off the first concert of the Boardwalk. I'm pretty sure this is the kind of music Scott the punk likes, right? Jk brah! Mike Holiday

Well boys, it's quarter to 1am, and I'm feeling good. Had roughly a 12 hour work day, and low and behold, there's one warm PBR from Mike's birthday sitting at the bottom of my stairwell. A wonderful way to cap off the night. You'd think it wouldn't get much better than that, but then the online content started to flow. No, it wasn't the Nike Batalla BCN. It was them boys of mine getting me hyped with the shit below. So hyped that I might even try to find that left over Jim Beam. Or not, cuz tomorrow was meant for riding! To close things off in a very weird way, I am grateful to be a part of the BMX universe!

Mike holidays are my favorite holidays. From his wedding, bachelor party, birthday parties, and most recently his 30th bday party, it's pretty evident the man knows how to fucking party. He's like the working man's Santa Claus or something. I'm pretty sure I drank 30 beers in his honor that night, as I'm pretty sure I've done that for all of his special occasions, so my memory is a little bit fuzzy. But Jackson is a a great journalist, so we'll let him and the Least Most get you stoked on this legendary Level 3 Trailblazer. http://leastmost.com/features/dirty-thirty/
Colburg pulling spots out of his ass... but can he pick up a beer with that hinder?

Plus if you see Cubby today, wish him a happy birthday.

A Year Ago Today...

MIke Tag Forever from FBM BMX on Vimeo.

Mike Tag Tribute- All Time Low from FBM BMX on Vimeo.

A year ago today, I found out that Mike Tag, my favorite rider, passed away. Naturally, my first reaction was to be sad. But it wasn't too long before a kind of spirit started to develop inside of me, driving the forlorn feelings out and replacing them with an exciting mixture of hope, appreciation, and wonderment. It compelled me to call my brother to ride that day, rather than the usual crew in Santa Cruz. So I called my brother, whom also heard the unfortunate news, and made plans to ride some old Peninsula spots from when I was younger. Rumors were circulating that some of these places were getting torn down, and the last thing I wanted to do was let them slip away due to idleness or a lack of ambition. A few hours later, I'm at the Millbrae skatepark with my brother and Joe Sprinkles, ready to seize the day.
Although we rode away from things that day which were gratifying, the session wasn't memorable because we championed a spot and recorded some rewarding clips. Surprisingly, the atmosphere reminded me of the futility behind "progress" when applied to your personal riding. The truly memorable part was the aura that encompassed the day, a respectful salute to the pursuit of happiness. I felt honored to be able to do what I do, with the people I've met, and the places I've ventured. Riding offered a spiritual connection with my peers and my environment, and stood as a firm reminder to cherish these moments and the ability to create them. The feeling seemed pretty mutual between all of us; a connection that will be tangible in my head for years to come. Ride in paradise, brother Mike!

Respect Thy Neighbor

Been clocking a lot of time at Mike Fox this past week, and it finally dawned upon me that there are A LOT of really talented ripper skaters in town. Don't get me wrong, Santa Cruz has produced tons of skate icons in the form of brands and skaters. However, I find it really easy to get desensitized to the many wood pushers that just hang out, want to look cool, or simply get in the way. So raise your glasses to the young rippers that are chasing that adrenaline dragon, staying motivated, and doing sick shit in our backyard!

Shit Show 4 from FBM BMX on Vimeo.

Kenny Horton has done it again, with another Shit Show classic! Featuring mentally unstable people on and off the bike, strap up your straight jackets and prepare to get a dose of grinds, gaps, and the death-defying Jac-Nac! More posts to come, but this is a good video to rope you back in from our brief hiatus.

Scuba Duba Do

It's posted #420, so we're giving the honor to Scuba with his new edit for Solid bikes. He demonstrates the hands-free Bluetooth method, although he doesn't have a cellphone.

Support Your Local Lurker?

Santa Cruz can be a creepy place, but this video takes it to a whole new level. Luckily Josh holds it down at 4:46, helping keep the fine downtown drinking establishments creep free... but for how long? Also, if anybody is trying to get down on the rails at Abbott Square, shred now or forever hold your piece. According to this article, these friendly six stairs might be subject to change.

Dangerous Grinds

Dangerous Grinds from Andy Maguire on Vimeo.

Dangerous Minds was a letdown of a movie, although it did put Coolio on the map. And it also featured the Giant Dipper. In homage, I give you "Dangerous Grinds." Below are some behind the scenes pics and perspectives from Greg Micklas and Dusty. Thanks guys!

Broken Spots, Broken Bones

Oh, so that's where the 4 foot spine from fun spot went... Nah, just kidding. I'd be pretty bummed if this spot was getting torn down, so it's cool to see Alex, Brandon and crew wrecking shop.

Big Mike posted this, and I'm pretty sure his last name translates to "Good Morning" in Italian. And he's riding with a broken wrist.

I feel like I haven't seen my BMX brethren from the 831 in ages, so let's change that. Fun Spot, tomorrow around 5pm. Maybe a beer after.

It's 5 o'clock - have you seen your bicycle?

This link is safe for work, and I feel that Santa Cruzians will have a good laugh upon reading this.   Some familiar faces in that line up, but also how could you forget somebody who shaved their eyebrows and tatoo'd "Skate" and "Destroy" in their place?  Is there a troll creator Iphone App?  I think we've hit the jackpot boys.

CJ pulling out the stops with one and a half shoulders. I feel for the man, since my shoulder is really sore right now. I feel bad for CJ getting lumped in with this round of tags though. Sorry dude!

Airs and Stairs

It seems like a common enough occurrence to post two completely unrelated videos on this site. First we have my favorite rider in Nor Cal, Tristan Adams, soaring above anyone's expectations of "style." Second, we have a dirty Jersey street riding video that has more bump and grind than an R Kelly song. It kind of makes me wonder if Tristan could make a pole jam off a log to grind to wallride 180 into broken glass look good. Fantasy Football Freestyle. Both deserve your attention, especially since it's what? You guessed it, a rainy day you and you can't ride.

This Will be the Subject on Friday Over Some Beers

Without sounding smug... I think I just blew it already. Either way, I hope someday I can make a donation to Santa Cruz High, renovating the stage under the agreement that it be named after me. In the meantime, let's get stoked VD is riding again and coming up with awesome titles for videos he's in.

Big Mikey Edits

I've been anxiously awaiting part 2 and 3 of the LMB Come Together Series, and by God I wasn't disappointed. Good vibe with some real deal bangers. Highlights for me were Murdock street lines, D-block's ridiculous rail ride to bar at Keezer Stadium, and Casey doing some crazy rocket shits. Oh yeah, Dr. Tymyk has some sweet street clips in there as well. A great way to start the year, I'm looking forward to working with the boys over there and keeping things slick and buttery worldwide.

Monkey Trouble

It's been a week since the last post; thoroughly disturbing for the loyal followers out there. For that, I apologize. However, we have a good edit from the Sweaty Buns Twins and other Full Frame Collective folk. It's nice to have riding content, because I almost just settled for "monkey riding something" as the main attraction. Then again, aren't we all just monkeys on bikes? Not trying to blow anybody's mind this early in the morning, but think about it. Keep your eyes peeled for a fakie pig ride thread the needle set-up.

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

Jackson wrote a far better summary of our skatepark trip than just a picture of a rusty superman.  Check out the Least Most for the prose. Until next time, but check the sickness at the door (but always bring the "illness"). And below you'll find a video of Victor Galindo, a very talented little shit from the area we visited. Congrats young homie! My only complaint is that it was missing a certain trick executed off a certain roof at a certain school in Santa Cruz.

Banister Slides

There's something about grinding handrails that always gets me stoked. Watching people get down is just as good. Whether it's on your bike or the daily grind, slide into some fun!

End of one year at the beginning of the next

Beerman has a clip in this shredding his free-coaster like the Backwards Man he is. Some other groms got down too, especially the one at the end that's about 7 1/2 feet tall.

Donkey Show

The second most important Kurt getting dirty and beating the street meat. Yowza!

Also, Jordan and crew going donkey in the stable, I mean Asylum. And bringing back the memories with a nice little re-cap of our Texas Toast trip. I had a feeling Leo wouldn't hide his footage forever!

Hello 2013

Happy New Year's boys! 2012 was all over the place, but a great year for Country Clubbin' overall. We're still riding, healthy, and having fun. But it's always good to start with fresh with a clean slate. So get stoked on the new year with some trails, trannies, and twinkle toes.
